I have not drunk alcohol in 17 years. Originally coming into recovery as a result of the justice system I frequented rehab for my many addictions on 4 separate occasions. From each time in rehab I was able to take some of what I learned and as a result was able to eventually see that it wasn't my cocaine habit or my need to constantly change my lovers that was really the problem. The problem was me, my underlying issues were what caused me to use and to do the things I did. I needed to understand why I did these things, why I used and eventually after much trial, error and pain, I have.
Today I don't believe that I have a disease, I don't believe a bunch of people like me sitting around in meetings are going to keep me sane. I believe at the end of the day its only me who can actually solve my problems. Its me who will reach out for a glass of bubbles or roll a bank note up so I can indulge in something that may or may not make me feel better.
My recovery or my cure, whatever you want to call it, is made up of many different things, good food, exercise, some karma, wonderful people who like me look to do no harm to themselves or others. Having said that my life today will not allow anyone into it who looks to hurt me or my family. I am not a door mat for those that look to take advantage of my good natured heart.
Serenity has been my passion and my dream for the past 4 years. My only wish is that YOU lead a better life free from the pain and suffering that you may be feeling while reading this. I am not a therapist nor do I hold any qualifications when it comes to addiction. I do however stand by these words... Addiction there is a cure... I have yet to meet anyone who was born an addict nor have I been shown any medical proof that addiction is a disease. At the end of the day it is YOUÂ who decides to get well, YOU who actually changes your behaviors, YOU who is in charge of YOU...
Recovery and a CURE takes time however. I honestly believe that if you're prepared to put in an effort then you too can have a better life. Right now I would not trade what I have for all the tea in China nor will I ever go back to living a life full of broken promises given to those I love and adore.. Life is good and I am happy to share with any of you how I ended up in my current state of mind body and soul.
